In partnership with Wise

Wise is a nationally recognized organization with over 30 years of experience supporting employment providers and systems to improve services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Their team includes professionals with deep expertise in training design, accessibility, and equity-focused service delivery—many of whom are members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community and bring valuable lived experience to this work. Together, we aim to create a sustainable, inclusive training initiative that amplifies the voices of LGBTQIA2S+ individuals with IDD and equips providers with the tools and strategies to offer equitable support.

Call for Proposals

Proposals will be accepted through Friday, July 24th.

Wise and Integrated Resources Institute are excited to announce the PRIDES Learning Series, a webinar and podcast series focused on improving services for individuals with intellectual disabilities who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. Trainings will be centered around the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals with IDD and will be aimed at promoting more inclusive work environments within provider organizations. Live webinars will be attended by individuals in the Los Angeles area, and recordings will be made available broadly.

This form collects presentation proposals for the PRIDES Learning Series. Each presenter will be asked to complete one webinar and one podcast interview on their presentation topic. Our team will work with presenters on the production and completion of these deliverables to be completed in between September 2026 and early 2028. The proposals will be reviewed for consideration by a committee.

Goals

Provide quality trainings for service providers centered around the lived experiences of queer people with IDD and the best ways to support them.
Promote more inclusive environments to better support queer people with IDD.
Establish ongoing availability of quality trainings and resources for supporting queer people with IDD.

About the trainings

Stay tuned for the 19-part webinar training series with podcasts featuring trainers with lived experience!

The trainings will:

Provide service providers, families, and people served with culturally responsive strategies and best practices for supporting people with the intersection of queerness and IDD.
Promote more inclusive environments!
Trainings and podcasts will be recorded with ongoing availabiity for all!

Why this is important

Queer individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) experience profound disparities in access, inclusion, and representation. More than a third of queer individuals self reported having a disability. They face dual marginalization, within both queer and disability communities, resulting in systemic barriers such as lack of inclusive practices, fear of losing services upon coming out, and invisibility in data collection. Regional Center Purchase of Service (POS) data and National Core Indicators (NCI) surveys consistently show gaps in culturally responsive services for individuals with intersecting identities.
