About ACRE Training

Why ACRE?

ACRE members believe that the quality of employment services to individuals with disabilities can be improved by ensuring that the training available to provider staff is of a high quality. To quantify high quality, ACRE uses four domains (following APSE’s domain model) and 39 competencies to evaluate curricula and training approaches, as well as requiring documentation of trainer qualifications and experience.

What does this training cover?

The ACRE Basic Employment training will cover topics such as disability rights, community research, individualized assessment/discovery, career planning, workplace support, and job development.

Employment Services Certificate

The Employment Services Certificate is being offered by the Integrated Resources Institute and is based on a curriculum developed by TransCen, Inc.

The certificate curriculum is endorsed by Association for Community Rehabilitation Educators (ACRE). Upon completion of the required 40+ hour training, you will receive an “ACRE Certificate of Achievement.” This Employment Services Certificate is comprised of 6-day workshop (30 hours) and two sets of field-based assignments (10 hours). The training schedule may be modified to meet the needs of the trainee, and the workshops can be offered remotely.

In FY 2022, California Department of Developmental Services offered a grant to increase competitive integrated opportunities (CIE) for individuals served by regional centers. $10 million in one-time funding was awarded to numerous organizations. IRI was one of the recipients with the goal to develop and train ACRE so that job coaches/specialists would be able to help increase CIE.

Additionally, DDS issued quality incentive payments to providers of regional center services in the amount of $3,000 once they had staff trained to ACRE.

For this grant, if you are an employee of a Department of Developmental Services Vendor that works in Orange County, North Los Angeles County, North Bay, San Diego, or Inland Regional Center, training is provided at no cost to you. If you are an employee of a Department of Developmental Services vendor and do not provide services in these areas, the training is available to you and reimbursable through the State of California’s quality incentive payment program.
