Wise and Integrated Resources Institute are excited to announce a new iteration of the PRIDES Learning Series, a webinar and podcast series focused on improving services for individuals with intellectual disabilities who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. Trainings are centered around the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals with IDD and aimed at promoting more inclusive work environments within provider organizations.
Utilizing a trauma-informed and intersectional lens, this presentation explores the unique experiences of transgender, gender-diverse, and intersex (TGI) community members with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Participants will examine how ableism, cisnormativity, and heteronormativity intersect to create barriers to affirming care, safety, and belonging.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the unique experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), with particular attention to transgender, gender-diverse, and intersex (TGI) community members.
Identify the impact of implicit bias, stigma, intersecting identities, and psychosocial factors on the experiences of TGI individuals living with IDD.
Implement evidence-informed, trauma-responsive strategies to build trusting relationships and foster environments that move beyond inclusion and toward belonging.
Meet the Trainers
Alex Bass (they/them)
Alex Bass (they/them) is the Policy Associate at the TransLatin@ Coalition, where they fight to dismantle the systemic barriers in housing, healthcare, and employment that disproportionately affect the TGI (Trans, Gender Expansive, and Intersex) community.
Luna Perez (she/her)
Luna Perez (she/her) is a Training Specialist at The TransLatina@ Coalition. She graduated from UCSB in Sociology. Through her non-profit work, she’s formed impactful client-based and professional relationships with the primary aim of providing seamless care through advising and counseling.
Anthony Languren (he/him)
Anthony Languren (he/him) is a Training Specialist at The TransLatin@ Coalition and holds his MSW from USC. His work focuses on strengthening organizational capacity through training, with an emphasis on trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and affirming care for LGBTQ+ communities.
